Who will built a new Egypt capital? How long will it take?

At the recent Economic Development conference Abdul-Fattah Al-Sisi, President of Egypt, officially announced the start of the state new capital construction. It will be located to the East of Cairo, close to the Red Sea, and it will occupy an area of 700 square km. The population of the City of the Future will be 5-7 million people. Initially the decision to start "a Construction of the century" was caused by notorious overcrowding of Cairo, which has over 20 million inhabitants even according to official figures of the United Nations.

Master plan development for the new metropolitan city was given to an international firm Skidmore, Owings & MerrillLLP (SOM), one of the world's most influential companies in the field of architecture, engineering and urban planning. It has completed some of the largest projects, including the famous Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Another reason to start the great construction is the authorities’ desire to "cheer up limping economy” by attracting investment into a huge project. According to media reports, they have already managed to raise about $ 12 billion, mainly from wealthy Middle East neighbors. Due to preliminary calculations, the total cost of the construction will be about $ 45 billion, and the construction will take about seven years.

As envisioned by designers, the new capital, divided into 46 areas, will have the Houses of Parliament and more than a million residential houses, 1250 mosques and churches, 663 medical centers and a huge theme park. Sophisticated metropolis plan will make it convenient for pedestrians. The project includes a large number of squares and other public spaces. Numerous roads will connect the Future capital of Egypt with other regions of the country.
